National Convener to organise women’s cricket in Pakistan

Chairman PCB is pleased to announce that Mrs Meera Phailbus has agreed to become the National Convener of Women’s Cricket in Pakistan. Mrs Phailbus has recently retired after thirty two years as principal of Kinnaird College Lahore. She enjoys an outstanding reputation in education circles for her experience as educationist and organiser of women’s sports.
PCB will shortly draw up a charter of responsibilities in order to put women’s cricket family on the map in Pakistan. The broad outlines of the charter would be to:
- 1. Organise women’s cricket at the national/regional & district level.
- 2. Allot specific time for coaching girls at national and regional academies.
- 3. Encourage District Associations to have a women’s representative on their committees and to organise women’s cricket at the schools, colleges, universities and at club level.
- 4. Provide grounds and coaching facilities for women’s cricket in the major towns by associating women’s educational institutions.
- 5. Instruct Regional Development Officers to ensure that women’s cricket is provided facilities, grounds, coaching, equipment at the regional level.
- 6. Seek sponsors for women’s cricket.
- 7. Raise representational teams at all national levels.
- 8. Include women’s cricket in the new constitution currently being drawn by the Constitution Commission so that it becomes an activity under the aegis of PCB, in accordance with ICC guidelines for women’s cricket.
- 9. Network with schools, colleges, and universities for women for the promotion of women’s cricket.
Mr Imtiaz Ahmed, former Test player, has agreed to act as Advisor on women’s cricket in Pakistan.
